Dr. Barry A. Winston
Optometric Physician
Dr. Barry A. Winston received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1974 from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He was the third member of his family to graduate from SCO, but not the last. His son, Sam, followed in his footsteps and graduated from SCO in 2011. Dr. Barry attended the University of Tennessee and the University of Memphis prior to optometry school.
Dr. Barry has been caring for patients in the practice since 1974, when he was licensed by both the national and state boards. He received International Association of Board Examiners certification for the treatment and management of ocular disease in 1987, as well as therapeutic injectable certification in 1996, therapeutic drug certification in 1988, and diagnostic drug certification in 1975.
Dr. Barry is a past president of the East Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians. He is also a member of the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians and the American Optometric Association. He has held all three of these professional affiliations since 1974.
His community service includes having served as president of the West Knoxville Sertoma Club, president of the Knoxville Racquet Club and member of the board for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Tennessee Valley. He was also a past board member of First Vantage Bank. In 2024, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from Southern College of Optometry.
In his freetime, Dr. Barry enjoys golfing and spending time with family.
